Equine Operations: What You Need to Know About the COVID-19 Pandemic

What you need to know during the COVID-19 Pandemic. By NYS Executive Order 206, beginning March 22nd, 2020 at 8pm, 100% of non-essential workforce has been ordered to stay home.

 “When I [Governor Cuomo] talk about the most drastic action we can take, this is the most drastic action we can take… 100% workforce reduction for non-essential services is not a guideline, but a legal mandate. New Yorkers have been ordered to stay home and not go out for anything nonessential. “ (Rochesterfirst.com)

According to the Interim Guidance issued by NYS Department of Ag and Markets on 3/22/2020, a set of animal care operations has been identified as essential and are exempt in order to provide essential animal care. Equine is defined in the guidance as an essential animal care business/activity. Essential care should be considered in terms of actions and activities that must happen during this time -period to ensure welfare standards are met.
