Madison County 4-H Tractor Safety Certification Program

The CCE Madison County 4-H program is offering the National Safe Tractor and Machinery Operation Program (NSTMOP) to youth ages 14 and older. This is an opportunity to be certified for farm employment, this includes the operation of farm tractors and machinery. The Hazardous Occupations in Agriculture Law requires youth ages 14 to 16 must have at least 24 hours of safety instruction in order to operate a tractor and machinery on a farm other than that owned by their parents. https://reg.cce.cornell.edu/tractorsafetymadison23_225

To successfully complete the program, participants must attend all sessions and pass both a written exam and a practical driving test. Participants will have the opportunity to practice driving tractors. These driving sessions are highly encouraged to ensure that everyone is comfortable operating equipment before the mandatory driving test. Upon successful completion of the test, participants will receive a certificate from the Department of Labor. Employers are required by law to ask for this certificate before hiring a 14 or 15 year old to work on their farm.

Sessions will be held across Madison County, dates are below.
